My Dirty List of Fandom Confessions

Look guys, I have been a geek before conception - the nerdy community is the only world I have ever known. I've been going to conventions since I was nine and I honestly don't know any other sort of environment, even with all the inevitable changes that have occurred in the geek world over the years. I don't feel like I need to prove my geekyness by any means, but I definitely have some...confessions to get off my chest.

I'll be the first to admit that everyone is different and opinions are opinions! But there are some nerdy things that I feel are universal with everyone I have ever met - except for me.

So! To spice things up a bit, I've decided to list some abnormal, possibly straight up "unpopular", fangirl confessions:

The All-Time “Toughest” Disney Tag

I can't believe it's already April?! I'm happy to say I've been finding a balance between working on upcoming projects and just doing nothing all weekend when I can. Life has been pretty content, and while I continue to explore every inch of Breath of the Wild, I didn't want to forget this corner of the internet that is my blog!

I recently found the cutest Disney blog, Courage and Kindness, and found this Disney related questionnaire - I've seen plenty of Disney tags before, all with the same ol' questions, but this one is different!

Cosplay Breakdown – Belldandy Research Log!

Now that Pax South is over and I've had a bit of a chill break, I'm itching to start sewing. Even though I have a list of cosplays I want to make, none of them are inspiring me enough to start on! I've been watching a lot of Katsucon footage, which is always my go-to for cosplay inspiration, and over the course of a few days I have concluded the following:

I couldn't think of anything off the top of my head from any current shows/games, and I started to think back to the designs I loved from my first introduction of manga (CLAMP artbooks, ect). But, I started to get worried that those gowns I loved when I was twelve was just too "old school" and wouldn't be recognized. Then, on a wildly productive and slightly non sober Monday night, the gears in my head started going crazy. She was the very first entry on my Dream Cosplay List and now, I'm about to make my thirteen-year-old self very very happy. I'm going to make Belldandy

I'm excited to finally chronicle an entire cosplay from start to finish, but first we have to make a plan!

My 2017 Cosplay Resolutions!

I'm only 3 days into 2017 and I'm still hyped about this "fresh start" feeling that only a new year gives me. A few days ago, I posted a generic Resolutions post about what I want to do overall, but then I started thinking about what I wanted to do cosplay-wise!  One of my overall generic resolutions for the year was to "make cosplays I'm proud of." I want to take the time to make a few really outstanding outfits that are either really comfortable and durable to wear multiple times or push me outside my comfort zone. That being said, I figured this needed it's own sub-list!

  • Work with Worbla - I bought a small amount of Worbla a while back, invested in a heat gun and really enjoyed playing around with the material! Crafts/props has never been my strong point, but I think Worbla is worth the money for how easy it is to work with. I have a ~secret crossover project~ for 2017 that I'm going to make just a little bit of armor for.
  • Learn Draping - draping is where you pin fabric directly to a dress dummy and "sculpt" a garment! I learn visually and hands on, so while I'm not afraid to do math, just measuring out a pattern on paper is difficult for me. I can't visualize it in 3D as well as I could on a mannequin!
  • Invest In A Better Sewing Machine - not really a resolution, more of a "to-do!" I still use the first sewing machine I ever purchased when I was 18. It's still in great working condition, but not as advanced as I wish it was! It's time to upgrade!
  • Line My Garments - I take so many shortcuts so that the outside looks "perfect" while the inside looks horrible. Lining and taking better care of the steps I take when finishing my cosplay takes extra time, but I really need to do it from now on!

So there are my cosplay goals for 2017! I am excited to look back in December and see how well I did. What about you, any goals you have in mind for your cosplay plans? Let me know in the comments!

Everything I Can’t Wait For In 2017 + Resolutions!

Happy New Year's Eve, everyone! 2016 has been....interesting, to say the least. It was a bit of a letdown for me overall, I'm trying to think of good things that happened and I'm just reminded of all the bad things of 2016. So instead, I'm going to make a list of all the things I'm looking forward to - plus some personal resolutions at the end!

PAX South (Jan 27-29)

Last year I meant to go to PAX South in San Antonio for the first time - but badges sold out! All the conventions I'd ever been to you could buy badges the day of, so I was not prepared for badges being limited for PAX. (Instead, that weekend I started this blog! One good thing in 2016 so far) I'm excited to go to a convention that is not centered on anime and Japanese trends, but more into games and demos!

Game of Thrones Season 7 (Summer 2017)

Alright, so I just finished the GoT Telltale PC game - boy, was that a stressful way to unwind from work. Stressful but addicting! It really got me hyped about the world of Westeros again. Normally new seasons start in April-ish, but with a lot more winter-y scenes needed, they're going to film longer and air the next season in summer 2017. I. Am. Ready. I still get goosebumps when I think about the big moments of last season and I'm really excited to feel that adrenaline rush on Sunday evenings.
