It’s officially October! I’m so excited that my favorite time of year is finally starting. There’s Halloween, Renfest, going outdoors more and so much more fun things I have to look forward to every year. But one thing I’ve never really participated in was NaNoWriMo – National Novel Writing Month – until now!
The idea of NaNoWriMo is really simple: you have the entire month of November (so until 11:59PM November 30) to write a 50K word novel. It doesn’t have to be perfect or final, the idea is just to write everyday. I’ve always heard of this but never had the time to try or had any ideas to go with. But I am in desperate need for some creativity homework and felt like challenging myself with this would be the best option to go.
Which means, I need to plan everything out this month. Set up the basic timeline, name my characters, get to know my characters, and do lots of world building. I’m scared, but excited! My end goal is not just to write a story, but to eventually turn my story into a webcomic.
So if you’re participating in NaNoWriMo this month – or just planning a novel in general! – here’s some great brainstorming and writing exercises to help you get started!
